Annual leave request (Lithuania)
Checked 2026-10-05Enter your leave dates in English and get a tidy request for annual leave written in Lithuanian, with an English translation underneath.
Why the document is in Lithuanian
Under Article 25(4) of the Labour Code, documents that an employee and an employer hand to each other (requests, notices, consents) are provided in Lithuanian, and when the employee is a foreigner, in Lithuanian and another language the employee understands. Companies in Lithuania also keep their records in the state language (Article 4 of the Law on the State Language). That is why you get the Lithuanian text for your employer and, under your signature, an English translation, so that you know exactly what you are signing. The translation is for information only: the Lithuanian text is the one that counts.

REQUEST
FOR ANNUAL LEAVE
I request that I be granted annual leave from [first day of leave] to [last day of leave] inclusive.
What you should know
Annual leave is governed by Articles 126–130 of the Labour Code. The 2026 amendments did not change the procedure for granting leave (Article 128).
- Length (Article 126). At least 20 working days a year if you work 5 days a week, or 24 working days if you work 6 days. Employees under 18, employees raising a child under 14 alone (or a child with a disability under 18) and employees with a disability get 25 or 30 working days. Leave is counted in working days; public holidays are not included.
- Parts (Article 128(1)). Leave is granted at least once per working year. At least one part must be no shorter than 10 working days (12 if you work 6 days a week).
- First working year (Article 128(2)). The full leave is normally granted after you have worked at least half of the working days of the working year. It is granted earlier, for example, to pregnant employees before or after maternity leave.
- When the employer must grant the request (Article 128(5)). To pregnant employees before or after maternity leave; to employees during the maternity leave of the child’s mother, before or after paternity leave; to employees who study, to fit the leave to exams and tests; to employees nursing sick family members or persons with a disability, and to employees with chronic illnesses, on the recommendation or conclusion of a health care institution.
- Holiday pay (Article 130). Paid no later than the last working day before the leave starts. If you want it paid together with your wages in the usual way, hand in a separate request.
In other cases leave is granted according to the leave schedule drawn up at the workplace or by agreement with the employer, and is formalised in the way the employer has set (Article 128(3) and (6)). If the company uses a personnel system, you may have to submit the request there.

Questions and answers
How far in advance do I have to hand in the leave request?
The Labour Code sets no specific deadline: annual leave is formalised in the way the employer has set. Check the company’s work rules. Holiday pay must be paid no later than the last working day before the leave, so it is worth handing in the request early.
Can the employer refuse to grant leave?
Leave is granted according to the leave schedule or by agreement, so the employer may propose another time. In the cases listed in Article 128(5) of the Labour Code (for example before or after maternity leave, or to fit exams) the employer must grant the request.
Is leave counted in working days or calendar days?
In working days. Public holidays are not included in the length of leave (Article 126(4) of the Labour Code).
Can I take leave before I have worked six months?
The full leave for the first year is normally granted after you have worked at least half of the working days of the working year, but the right to use part of the leave arises once you have earned at least one working day of leave. If the employer agrees, you can take part of the leave earlier.
